The web is fast becoming a center for social activities. Instead of just looking for information, advice and the latest news in the more conventional ways the internet has to offer, people are relying on their friends and acquaintances.
This is now easier and faster than ever before, thanks to innovative websites such as Facebook and twitter. The latter is particularly popular since you can get all the latest updates and information directly to your mobile phone, no matter the hour of the day or your location.
This innovative communication system is therefore an excellent source of revenue in many ways, as long as you put a little effort in the venture you are undertaking and use some of your own creativity.
This article discusses some useful tips to help you succeed and make money with twitter.
How twitter Works
In order to take advantage of the opportunities the social site has to offer, you should know first how it works.
It is quite simple – you sign up for an account, which allows you to post short messages (tweets) to people who have agreed to receive them (your followers). This in turn provides you with a totally free way to share your views and advertise your offer in various ways. If you do it right, you can make some healthy profits out of it.
How To Increase Your twitter Followers Fast
The first step towards twitter success is to get as much people as possible to become your followers. This is especially important if you are going to market various products and you want them to get massive exposure.
There is no point in posting your tweets to only a few people, unless they are raving fans or dedicated followers.
Here are 4 effective ways to get more people to follow you on twitter.
1) Spread The Word To All Your Contacts.
Collaborate with your friends and acquaintances to spread the word about each other’s twitter accounts. This is a great option if you are an active member of an internet community that is at the same time a distinctive target group.
Let’s say you have a music blog with regular readers. If you are constantly writing in various dedicated online forums, you can ask fellow members to become your twitter followers.
If you have a list of subscribers, you could invite them to receive your messages. If you have a website, you could post a note informing visitors about your twitter account.
2) Provide A Specific Free Service Using twitter.
This can be an alert for sports games scores, for shopping discounts or the latest gossip and news in a specific area.
It is best to choose a bit broader subject and have an appropriate username presenting your service. You have to put some extra effort in this as it requires regular work, but you can readily do it from your home or office.
3) Add Your twitter Account In twitter Directories.
You can increase your chances of getting targeted followers by adding your twitter account in the appropriate categories of twitter directories.
Some of the most popular ones include:
twellow.com/
justtweetit.com/directory/
wefollow.com/
loadedweb.com/twitter/
tweetfind.com/
mrtweet.com/
mytwitterdirectory.com/
tweeplepages.com/
All it takes is a couple of minutes to add yourself into each twitter directory; and you only need to do it one time to get permanent exposure.
4) Follow Other People In Your Niche Or Field Of Interest.
When you follow twitterers in your niche, they tend to follow you back. It’s the law of reciprocity at work.
Where do you find them? Browse through the twitter directories above and follow people who are in the same field, or have the same interests, as yours.
How To Make Money With twitter
Despite the way in which you have attracted twitter followers, you have to make your tweets informative and interesting in order to make people read them.
Now it is easier than ever before to make money with twitter. Through the Sponsored Tweets service, you can present a marketing offer to potential clients to advertise their products in your tweets. This is particularly convenient since you do not have to look for customers elsewhere and spend money and time advertising your own offers.
However, there is an important point you have to pay attention to. You would not want your followers to stop reading your messages just because they are overwhelmed with advertisements. A good way to avoid this is to continue sending the usual information people expect from you and add an end line with the marketing message.
Experienced social marketers recommend sending a promotional tweet only after every 5 to 7 non-self-serving tweets. After you’ve built trust and rapport by sending helpful or interesting tweets, you might increase the number of times you advertise.
But always remember to do it subtly. One way to do that is to point them to a webpage where they can read an informative article or watch a video that “pre-sells” your product. You may also give them a free report branded with your own offers. Avoid blatant promotions and you will get more sales.
Generally, the preliminary creation of a free service will aid you in making money with twitter, as it will allow you to incorporate advertisements more easily. For example, if you are sending information on electronic gadgets discount stores, you can have these retailers pay you for including their address in your tweets.
All these advertising tips to make money from twitter can be successfully adopted with the right timing and strategy. It costs you nothing but your profits could skyrocket.

Success for many businesses is measured in sales generated by walk-in customers. If this describes your business, then you may be wondering about how you could benefit from twitter. Face it, having followers around the globe is wonderful, but to leverage twitter for your foot-traffic business, you need to reach people in your community. Here are some tips on how you can effectively use twitter within your business, reach local customers, and provide real customer value.
1. Create a Business Presence on twitter
It’s always good to start at the beginning. Create a twitter account for your business, and customize it with a branded background page. Hire a decent graphic designer to incorporate your business logo, address, and other contact information into a clean, professional twitter background. People will be looking at your twitter page – and they WILL judge your business by how it appears.
2. Tweet Regularly About your Business
Designate someone, an employee or yourself, who will be responsible to provide twitter updates on a regular basis. Tweet about what’s going on inside your business, and in the community. Are you running any sales or special offers? Do you have new products to announce? Run special twitter promotions along the lines of: Mention this tweet and get an additional discount. Look for ways to create added incentive for locals to frequent your business, and call out the reasons people in your community should be coming to your business.
3. Participate in Conversations About Your Brand or Store
Search twitter for mentions of your store, brand, or main products and reply to questions and even complaints. Think of twitter as not only a communications medium, but also a customer service forum and business intelligence tool. You can use twitter search and tools like Tweetdeck and Twhirl to keep tabs on what people are saying about what’s important to your business and its reputation. The important thing here is to actively participate in, or even start, conversations about your business – preferably with locals.
4. Find and Connect with other twitter Users in Your Community
Actively look for local followers and post a tweet each time you’re planning to look for people in your community. Once you’ve done that, feel free to add local followers. Again – your community makes up the your customer base – so find the ones that are using twitter, follow them, and engage them.
There are several sites that will help you find locals on twitter. twitter Advanced Search, Nearby Tweets, Tweepz, and ChirpCity are all good places to look for locals on twitter.
5. Keep in Mind: Your Customers Probably Carried twitter In With Them
With current mobile technologies, it’s now a safe bet that the customers walking into your place of business probably have a fully functioning web browser and wireless internet access in their pocket. Take advantage of this and add some signage – somewhere around the cash register or on your shop floor – that calls out your twitter name. Encourage customers who walk in to follow you on twitter for updates, special offers, and customer service. Most of your customers could be following you before they walk out the front door.
Also, when you ask your customer for contact information – make sure you ask for their twitter name too. If they’re on twitter, they likely want followers – so you might get this information more easily than an email address or phone number. Afterwards, follow them, and even send a nice DM thanking them for their business. People like being thanked.
6. Here’s Your Sign
Treat your twitter account as you would treat your email address or phone number – as vital business contact information. Add it to your Yellow Pages listing, mention it on your local print and radio ads, and put it on your email signature, business cards and stationary. In the 90s, when businesses were just starting to build a web presence, many companies were slow to realize the importance of adding their email and url to their business collaterals. Don’t be one of many businesses that makes the same mistake with their twitter name.
7. The Whole is Greater than the Sum of its Parts
Finally, consider using twitter as more than just part of your marketing efforts. Make it part of your business. twitter can give you insight into how customers perceive your company or brand. twitter provides an avenue for you to interact with customers in ways that current customer service models don’t.
For example, imagine that a customer opens Tweetie on their iPhone as they walk from your place of business to their car. Since you asked for their twitter name, you were able to follow them immediately, and you sent them a quick direct message thanking them for their business. Imagine how they’d feel if you made it clear that you thought they were important, or if you helped them work through a legitimate complaint and then thanked them on twitter.
I think they would feel like telling a friend or family member about your business, and then they would be following you on twitter as well. And that friend or family member would be walking in before long too.

I recently published a blog entitled “twitter: Delete Your Followers” that clearly outlined the need to properly manage your social networks on a daily basis and keep a good watch on your twitter followers. Due to a recent trend in individuals finding themselves lost by the twitter onslaught, I felt it necessary to publish some helpful tips for those new to twitter.
twitter is a place to share, connect and quickly adapt to cultural trends. I don’t recommend it for individuals who expect to find Facebook or MySpace features such as commenting on ‘wall’ posts or posting long bulletins. A recent report stated that nearly 60% of twitter new user registrations are almost immediately left vacant. I believe that this is because people find it surprisingly difficult to understand the simple concept of twitter. There are dozens of articles, a few books and I believe even a movie coming out but some people still just do not know how to make twitter work for them. So, even though I am posting back-to-back twitter related blogs, I want to do so in an attempt to help the new twitter community understand how to get started and understand these tools with three easy tips and a short list of popular twitter trends.
Note: If is impossible for people to find you or share information with you if you protect your tweets.
1 – Seek out People with Similar Interests – One of the features that make twitter different is its search function. You can search for keywords or phrases quickly and results are sorted by the most recent tweet containing that specific keyword or phrase. This means that if you enjoy fishing, type ‘fishing’ into the search box and see who is talking about it to find people with similar interests. Most of your favorite businesses or organizations should be on twitter and you can find also them by using this feature or simply clicking on the ‘Find People’ button at the top of every page to search for their name. This is a good way to build new relationships and improve your following/follower count.
2 -Do Not Use twitter for Heavy Advertising or Self Promotion – The most deleted follower on twitter is known commonly as a ‘spammer’. These spam-artists can range from real people to computer bots. Both share a single trait – they contribute nothing useful to the twitter community. It’s important to resist all temptation for heavy advertising or self promotion. Don’t get me wrong, I post links that promote my new blogs every so often and like to point traffic to my personal website but I do my best to limit these to ‘every so often’ and build my credibility with useful and thoughtful 140 character tweets.
3 – Contribute Something Interesting Daily – When first joining twitter, it is often difficult to find something to share. This is the point where most people never return. There is a growing list of people who sign up, tweet once and leave (this is the 60%). One of my co-workers did this recently and I finally confronted him about it. He told me that he didn’t know how he could make twitter fun or what it was he had to contribute. I told him that he was one of the funniest guys I knew and that he could use twitter for posting great jokes or funny thoughts and that people would follow him or even mention him based on his daily humor. Since that conversation, he has posted nearly 25 times and has gained several followers that share in his enthusiasm for comedy.
In addition to these steps, I will quickly reference some of the most common terminology used on twitter and give you brief explanations.
Tweet – This word is the twitter version of ‘post’. Every time you post something via twitter, you are ‘tweeting’.
Tweep -The twitter community refers to its members as Tweeps. If you follow me on twitter, I am your fellow Tweep.
RT (retweet) – Retweeting is integral to your success via twitter. Social media expert Ben Parr of http://www.Mashable.com says “Retweeting is how twitter users share interesting tweets from the people they are following. They copy and paste the original tweet and send it out. To give credit to the original person, users usually put “RT” plus the originator’s username at the beginning of the tweet.”
@ – To mention a Tweep or respond to them directly, be sure to include the ‘@’ symbol before their username. This will link the username right to the users profile and help promote your fellow Tweep.
# – Hash tags are used to better organize information to be searched by other users. For example, a common hash tag tweet is ‘#thingsihate’. If you find yourself in a situation that is less than favorable, add ‘#thingsihate’ to the end of your tweet so that others involved in similar situations can quickly find and relate.
#followfriday (or FF or followfriday) – Every Friday you will see a trending topic listed as #followfriday. #followfriday is a game that was started to help you connect with other valuable Tweeps via friend suggestion. If you feel that you are following someone that has something valuable and interesting to offer, promote them by simply tweeting ‘#followfriday’ and their username. (Don’t forget to place the ‘@’ symbol before the username).
I hope this somewhat brief introduction to twitter was helpful and that you can use these tips to better position yourself as a useful Tweep!

The hottest new game in town, so to speak, is anything related to twitter and twitter marketing. With literally millions of relatively new followers joining twitter everyday, you’d be crazy to listen to the few nay-sayers who will try to convince you that twitter is just a fad.
So now you’re hot to trot right into a major campaign to drive twitter followers into your twitter account while banking major dollars every week. Make no mistake; gaining twitter Followers is not like Rocket Science. Rocket Science is easier!
But, we can crack the code for how to gain 1000s of twitter followers for your twitter account. It’s all about quantity and quality. Let’s look at the top 8 most highly ranked ways to tap into the secret to building a very big family of twitter followers.
1. Hide Nothing About Yourself
You may be the biggest smart guy in town or have a reputation for being the biggest dummy in your neighborhood. In either case, make sure you lay it out there in the public eye when you post your tweets. twitter is a community with nearly insatiable tastes. There is a representative of every type of like and dislike you can imagine. No shame in being simple or having simple taste. And there’s no gain if you keep it too yourself. You’ll make a ton of friends if you’ll just be who you are in the quiet places in your life. Don’t try to imitate the so-called gurus or the superstars like Punked-boy. Keep it real and you will sell yourself to twitter followers big time.
2. Don’t Be Afraid To Be Outspoken
My best friend is a tree hugging, no red meat eating vegetarian who clears the room at every party she enters. However, her twitter account grabbed up 10,000 followers in less than 30 days. Go figure. Speak your mind and you’ll probably anger 50,000 people enough to force them to be your twitter followers so they can keep disagreeing with you for the next 10 years.
3. Walk On The Wild Side
Some famous guy said words to the effect, “Society moves faster on the heels of its misfits than its scholars.” Now I’m making a point here and definitely not saying that you and I are misfits just because we walk a different path than the masses.
People like Donald Trump and Bill Gates or Famous Amos are not followers nor are they average thinkers. Their ideas were at one time thought to be abnormal. So, be zany or kooky enough to speak your mind and let the chips fall where they may. You’re not running for office, you’re placing yourself in front of a few million potential twitter followers who are anxious to follow someone who doesn’t bore them to tears.
4. I Am Legend
I don’t know about you but I am a movie nut and I share this passion with about 100 million or so people in this world also have the fever. Do you think a few hundred thousand people might be interested in movie quotes or chatting about their favorite punch lines from Caddy Shack? If you’re getting the hint about the direction I’m heading you understand the power of the movie niche. Naturally, there are literally millions of other niches that people find interesting. Pick one or a dozen and keep tweeting your way to 100,000 twitter followers over the next 12 or so months.
5. Don’t Be A Product Pusher
Just like a 100 million other Internet visitors, your twitter followers do not want to have your latest dicer and slicer gismo pushed into their face every other tweet you send. They’re looking for cool, crazy, zany stuff that takes them away from the infomercial crazy world we all live in these days. Make it fun and different and interesting and even controversial, and you’ll attract a ton of twitter followers into your account and wonder why everyone says it’s hard to do. The best approach is 3 to 1 or 4 to 1. What this means is send at least 3 or 4 non-marketing Tweets for every 1 marketing Tweet. That builds loyalty and your twitter followers will appreciate the respect.
6. Questions Are The Answer
twitter fans love to read snappy cool quotes. It’s probably the second favorite thing about their experience. In first place is responding to questions. If you want to draw twitter followers into your account you’ll want to become comfortable asking for things. For example, ask for opinions like, why the moon never hides behind the sun but once in a lifetime. Or, why is an airplane called an airplane but a bus is not called a roadplane? Think out of the box…and why not ask, why has thinking out of the box become more popular than thinking out of the norm? Just go for it.
7. Pay It Forward
In today’s harsh economic times there are millions of people trying to make ends meet. There are kids in the streets that need a mentor or big sister or brother. Interestingly enough, there are millions of people who would volunteer their time to help, if someone would just ask them! So, in between your quotes and jokes and well timed promotional Tweets, Tweet a message for a local or national non-profit and charitable organization with a purpose you believe in. Not only will you feel good, but your twitter follower list will explode. Try it for 30 days and watch what happens.
8. Always Remember, Sex Sells
First and foremost, I am definitely not talking about porn or anything even close. twitter is a PG community and the other stuff, while becoming more prevalent, does not sell well on twitter. You’ll make a ton of money and attract a million twitter followers by keeping it sexy cool and clean at the same time. Toss in a few snappy jokes with your Tweets. Let your mix of affiliate or other promotions be just a little spicy rather than bland. Don’t be afraid to mix it up a little, just don’t go overboard.
I’d like to close with an invitation to my blog. You’ll get even more free tips that will add powerful twitter marketing strategies to your arsenal.

I am not one for fridge magnets. There are only two that made it to our fridge. One was given to me by a friend when my two children were in their teens and as most teens, experiencing their set of adolescent struggles. Not only did I think the message on the magnet was a simple yet meaningful one for my children, I liked it for its everyday benefit for anyone. “If you want different results, try something new.”
twitter is something new.
As with most things that are new to us, there is risk, a learning curve, a possible sense of inability and most importantly, the possibility to generate different, and better, results.
Not only is twitter relatively new, its potential uses are growing regularly. More interestingly is that most of these new uses are generated by users rather than by the twitter company itself. Even some of the syntax commonly used on twitter was created by twitter users. The twitter website describes twitter as follows: “twitter is a service for friends, family, and co-workers to communicate and stay connected through the exchange of quick, frequent answers to one simple question: What are you doing?” It has evolved well beyond that and some twitter users would prefer that the “What are you doing” question get dropped from the site.
While many users communicate the personal side of their lives through twitter, this article focuses on organizational uses. If you are totally new to twitter though, the following video is a great description of how it can be used as a digital connection to friends and family: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ddO9idmax0o
Who cares what I am doing throughout the day? This was my first reaction to twitter. Well, aside from how the average person might use it to keep in touch with friends and family, the companies and organization they deal with turn out to be very interested. There are tools that make it very easy to see if your organization name has been included in someone’s comment or tweet. At http://www.tweetbeep.com is one of a variety of ways you can automate this. You don’t need to sit at your computer all day looking for comments.
Tablet Hotels uses its twitter account to keep an eye on what customers are tweeting about them. Michael Davis, co-founder of the chain, said one guest was upset with how she was being treated at the front desk and tweeted her frustration on her mobile phone right then and there. Someone from the hotel customer service department was alerted and read the complaint within 30 seconds of her posting it, then telephoned the front desk and the issue was resolved. If you think this might just be an isolated incident, Google twitter customer complaint. When I did it this morning, Google found about 1.2 million results!
“When C.C. Chapman noticed a blemish in his high-definition television’s reception during the NBA playoffs recently, he blasted a quick and negative tweet about Comcast. Within minutes, a twitter user named ComcastCares responded, and within 24 hours, a technician was at Chapman’s house in Milford to fix the problem. “I was so floored,” said Chapman, who runs a digital marketing agency and advises companies to do what he experienced with Comcast – listen to what customers are saying about them online and respond. “When it actually happened to me, it blew me away,” he said.” [1]
If you think that this sort of thing only applies to companies, consider the following tweet that was posted yesterday that I found through search.twitter.com: “So I give up some of my evening to volunteer at _______ and the group never turned up, what a waste of my time! Grrr”.
A significant upside to social networking resources such as twitter is the concept of “she told two friends and they told two friends” etc. This can work against you as well, though, but because the complaint happens in the open, you have access to it. If you make the effort to pay attention to it, you can deal with it.
The organizational use of twitter is not only for handling complaints. Tourism and Visitors’ associations have begun to use twitter to inform people about local events, exhibits, closures and so on. If you are traveling to a another city, you can follow the twitter account for the visitors’ association up until your trip is over and get current information about what is going on while you are there.
War Child uses twitter to tell personal stories of people in war torn parts of the world. A nonprofit organization aimed at providing clean water to developing nations started Twestivals which organize fundraising efforts and brings people together to make a global impact. These are just a few examples of how nonprofits are branching out of mailing lists, newspaper ads and newsletters.
Does your organization get thank you cards from the people it serves? How about taking a small quote from the thank you note and passing it on the volunteers and other people that are interested in your organization? In many cases, this is a project that the volunteer program and the fund development program can work on together.
How do we use twitter at Volunteer2?
We follow a variety of people to learn more about volunteerism, management practices and technology. I personally have picked up on three different stories of significant relevance to me this week alone. Every weekday I post a tip or new item for leaders of volunteers. Some days it is of my own authoring and many days I pass on something that someone else has posted (a re-tweet in the twitter syntax). You can sign up to follow me (to receive these daily tips) with the information provided in the author’s info.
So how do you get started?
For those of you who are brand new to twitter, go the New York Time Gadgetwise article twitter for Beginners by Paul Boutin. Once you become used to twitter a bit go to Paul’s article All You Need to Know to twitter. This article is a little old by twitter standards though (May 6, 2009). It is missing any mention that Tweetdeck (free software that I use in conjunction with twitter) is now available for the iPhone. How did I learn about that? Someone I follow on twitter tweeted it three days ago within hours of its release and I had it on my phone minutes later.
For the growing number of people using twitter, nothing gets the word out faster.

What is twitter?
twitter is referred to as a “microblogging” site. A blog is a site that allows users to post their thoughts on the web and accept comments from other users. In twitter, you set up a profile just like in other blogs but, twitter posts differ because their length is limited to 140 characters. twitter posts are called “tweets.”
People with twitter profiles can elect to follow you and read your posts as they occur. These posts are similar to short comments that appear in other blogs. People who read your blog and are interested in adding useful commentary usually do so in more than 140 characters. People with short comments normally say “See my website at – and include a link to their URL.” Such comments don’t contribute to your blog and are just another form of unwanted advertising. They are like the undesired promotional messages that clog modern email. This unwanted advertising, no matter where it occurs is called Spam. The “tweets” coming from twitter take on the form of typical Spam messages. It seems strange to me that the same people that vigorously oppose Spam, embrace the very same thing disguised as a “tweet.”
twitter has added a new dimension to URL links being posted in “tweets.” Since most URLs are quite long, to make them fit in 140 characters along with an explanatory message, a URL shortening service has to be used. Currently there are over 90 URL shortening services. TinyUrl.com, and Bit.ly,to name a few, are popular on twitter. Bit.ly is the official URL shortening service for twitter. It takes a long URL and turns it into the form bit.ly/xxxxx, where xxxxx represents a character code for the original URL. When someone clicks on the shortened URL link, the user first goes to bit.ly and then is redirected to the actual URL. But before redirecting, the information about the user who clicked on the link is saved. In this way merchandising trends about twitter users can be tracked and participating companies could be more effective in their marketing efforts. Isn’t there a word for such tracking? Spyware!
Besides, the privacy aspect, shortened URLs are a target for hackers. If they ever compromised a URL shortening service, anyone who clicks on a URL using that service could be sent to virus-laden site instead of where they wanted to go. Shortened URLs have numerous other security issues associated with them. Many technical sites address these issues.
What can be expressed in 140 characters? Most thoughts of value cannot be stated in this form of communication. Most short forms of expression common to texting on cell phones and twitter, are nothing more than gossip, Spam, and other useless chatter. twitter is just another tool in the media’s effort to suppress the individual, and create a population of people so superficial that they can easily accept the dictates of the leaders and marketers that pull their strings.
If you’ve ever tried to learn something new, you know that it takes a lot of time, effort, and concentration before you begin to see a glimmer of understanding. twitter teaches you to gossip in short bursts of thought. Your attention span gets shorter. You need to concentrate on a subject long and hard before you can learn it. When you get brainwashed by texting and twittering, your ability to learn gets diminished.
The Rich and Powerful can use twitter as Propaganda.
The people with most followers on twitter were already well known before they joined twitter. Famous people can twitter to spread their name and ideas. Politicians use this form of Spam to point to their sites and push their agendas. Companies trying to sell things can use the bit.ly site to report on how effective their marketing efforts are. Just as in other media cases, advertising money can buy followers. twitter is not too different from television and other media, whose goal is to capture consumer’s heart and mind for the sponsor.
Preparation for World Slavery.
If you look around you, in lot of cities you can see cameras everywhere, cameras to watch traffic as well as pedestrians. New cars are equipped with GPS tracking instrumentation. RFID devices track the items we purchase. Cellular technology is everywhere, WiFi and Wimax Networks wirelessly connect our computers and cell phones to the Internet. Governments are pushing for electronic Id cards.
In the years to come, if these technologies ever get co-ordinated and placed in the hands of our greed- driven political leaders, the world could see the rise of police states far worse than George Orwell’s fictional “Oceania” ruthlessly ruled by “Big Brother.” It is estimated that Stalin was responsible for the murder of 20 million people, and Hitler killed 11 million in German concentration camps. Neither of these dictators had access to high tech. Can you imagine how high the numbers would be, or how unbearable life would be under their rule, if they were using our current technology.
Aldous Huxley (author: Brave New World (1932)) has a famous quote that tells us what powerful leaders really want:
A really efficient totalitarian state would be one in which the all-powerful executive of political bosses and their army of managers control a population of slaves who do not have to be coerced, because they love their servitude. To make them love it is the task assigned, in present-day totalitarian states, to ministries of propaganda, newspaper editors and schoolteachers.
This is where sites like twitter come in. If twitter were a site designed to enhance you as an individual, it would not be embraced as it is by politicians and big corporations (the ones I call corporate aliens.) Instead, it wants to turn you into a superficial gossiper, and lessen your learning skills, so you would exuberantly cheer the ruling “Big Brother” and love your world of servitude.
Conclusion
Here are some reasons not to use twitter:
- twitter is used as Spam, gossip, and useless chatter.
- twitter consumes natural resources that can be put to better use.
- Meaningful ideas need more than 140 characters to express.
- twitter compromises security and privacy when using popular URL shortening services.
- Following trends like twitter lessens your individuality. Mediocrity is the characteristic of people who follow trends and have limited ideas of their own.
- twitter shortens your attention span and makes meaningful learning harder.
- Important Politicians and Big Corporations embrace twitter. The major characteristic of these members of society is insatiable greed and use of lies and propaganda to achieve their goals.
- twitter is joining other media in a co-ordinated effort to ensure the popular acceptance of the coming “police state.”
- The Internet consists a large number of learning opportunities never before available to the general public: free books, videos, tutorials on any subject desired. Instead of taking advantage of these opportunities, why do we choose to propagate Spam?

I bet you can’t go one day without hearing about the Internet’s latest media darling, twitter. Everybody from the mainstream media to celebrities to your Great Aunt Millie has at least heard of twitter. twitter has been used for everything from a critical communications link to the outside world during the Iranian Elections to Ashton Kutcher sharing a picture of Demi Moore in her underwear. As an Internet Marketer the profit making opportunity presented by those millions upon millions of worldwide users happily tweeting away should make your mouth water so much that your literally sitting in a pool of your own drool!
Guess what? You are not the only one with that idea and thousands of would be twitter marketers are trying to grab their share of the gold rush before the claim pinches out. Most will fail. twitter users are becoming more sophisticated and lest tolerant of blatant marketing efforts. Let’s make sure you are not a statistic. In this article we will provide you with the secret key to required properly mine twitter for fame and fortune.
twitter’s enormous popularity, like all social media, is built on implicit trust. As an example of that implicit trust mechanism, twitter only allows you to DM (twitter shorthand for direct message) those that follow you. The (truly) brilliant minds at twitter assumed that if a person trusts you enough to follow you, that they trust you enough to accept a direct message.
So you probably think that what I am saying is that to truly succeed with twitter as a marketing tool you must have thousands, or even better, millions of followers. How does that make my message any different from the hundreds of other twitter gurus who recommend that you go out and buy an expensive tool, usually from their affiliate link, and mass follow complete strangers, hoping they follow you back and twitter doesn’t ban your account? Well, don’t get me wrong, having your own legion of loyal followers is definitely an asset, but many twitter marketers do not have that luxury when they are first beginning to utilize the twitter system for marketing.
The true secret to utilizing twitter as a marketing tool is to embrace the viral nature of the twitter itself. You might only have 100 followers, but if each of those followers has 100 followers, now you have the basis of a campaign. But wait, what about the trust issue? You need to find a way of reaching the followers of your followers (or website and / or blog visitors). You need a bridge to get over the trust chasm that divides you from the hordes of faithful minions that follow your followers.
The best twitter strategy to build that bridge and complete the chain of trust is to get your website visitors to retweet (RT in twitter shorthand) your message to their followers. For example, provide a form on your website or blog that encourages your visitors to tweet your message. This is where your creativity needs to come into play. Craft a compelling Tweet with a subtle, but effective, call to action and then promise your visitor (and deliver) a free report or discount coupon after they complete the act of retweeting your message. For example, a very popular method currently is to conduct twitter contests. In exchange for an entry into your contest, your website visitor agrees to retweet your message. One company just completed a contest in which they gave away one Macbook a day for ten days. During the span of the contest, this company’s retweets trended higher than Michael Jackson’s death!
It is such a simple concept that it is very common for even the most experienced Internet marketer to forget; viral marketing is successful marketing. Your website or blog visitors trust you. The twitter followers of your visitor trust them. By encouraging your visitors to retweet your message to their followers, there is now an implied trust in you and your messag; the trust chasm has been bridged!
Viral marketing with twitter also has a nice side effect. If your visitor’s followers are intrigued by your message, they will voluntarily follow you – no prodding or coercion required! Thus not only are you fully exploiting the very viral nature of twitter, but you are also building up your ever important followers list, readily available for future efforts!
Self-promotion on twitter is dead. Promoting your own message is the easiest way to lose followers and potentially get clobbered by the dreaded twitter ban hammer. Don’t let others lead you to believe that twitter itself is dead.

Now that twitter is all the rage, many are trying to figure out how to make money online using it using popular twitter tools. Hence, questions on popular message boards like “How do I get followers on twitter?; How can I find followers on twitter?; and How to turn twitter followers into potential leads/customers?”
But, these are actually the wrong questions to be asking. In order to know which twitter applications will help you make money online, you need to know: (i) what your end goals are; and (ii) how to categorize twitter tools. This article will detail both.
twitter Marketing: What Are Your End Goals?
Most answer this question by saying something like, “making more affiliate sales,” or “branding my company.” Your end goals need to be more concrete than this. Answering the following questions will help you get very specific about what you can realistically accomplish using twitter tools.
What is Your Budget?
What is Your Timeline?
How Much Time You Plan to Invest in Using twitter?
twitter is free but you may need a budget to, for example, hire an SEO copywriter to write a landing page that converts. Do you want to increase sales by 20 percent over the next quarter, or the next year? Do you plan to outsource your twitter marketing, or keep it in house?
As you can see, knowing the answer to all three of these questions will not only help you select the right twitter tools to accomplish your goals, but better plan your online marketing efforts overall.
Now that you know the questions to ask (and answer) to properly assess your end goals, let’s turn our attention to categorizing twitter tools.
twitter Marketing: 3 Categories That Most twitter Tools Fall Into
The categories are:
1. twitter Tools That Teach You How to Use twitter: These are the most basic. If you’re new to this social media site, investing in a video course, ebook or membership forum is one of the best actions you can take to get you up to speed.
2. twitter Tools That Teach You How to Get More twitter Followers: If you have experience using twitter, then purchasing a program to learn how to get more followers is a natural next step.
Note: Don’t invest in this type of twitter tool without learning what the site is all about first. You’ll only be frustrated at your results.
3. twitter Tools That Brand Your Business: This is the most advanced type of twitter tool, for it teaches you how to really dissect the psychographics and demographics of your audience – and how to capitalize on that. If you’re a small or medium-sized business owner, this is an ideal way to use this social media marketing outlet.
Note: Building this type of twitter following tends to take more time, but it can be so worth it, especially if you learn how to monetize this following.

What are twitter Apps and Tools?
In a nutshell, a twitter application is a tool or piece of software you can use to access your twitter account without logging in to it on the Internet. A example of the most common twitter app is a tool that links your blog to your twitter account. Whenever you make a blog post, it automatically posts to your twitter account.
Another example of a twitter application would be on YouTube, where every time you post a YouTube video you can automatically post a link to that video through your twitter account. And there are many other twitter applications, too.
Another example of a good twitter application would be Tweetdeck. This twitter tool is basically a twitter application which sits on a desktop of your computer and allows you to see your twitter account, allows you to post tweets, allows you to see what other people are doing, and it’s also got a search tool on it.
There are also many other twitter apps also. I use a twitter app on my iPhone called twitterfon which allows me to post tweets to my twitter account using my iPhone. You also have other twitter apps which allow you to post to your twitter account from a cell phone.
Here is a really cool place that you can go to find all kinds of twitter applications to fit your different needs. It is called twitdom and that’s also a great place to go to see what kinds of other twitter applications they have, and use them to fit your needs.
Some of the other twitter apps available are, twitter applications which allow you to automatically un-follow someone when they un-follow you. They have twitter applications which allow you to schedule out tweets throughout the day and they’ll go out at specific times instead of just having to log in every time you make a tweet. There are desktop twitter apps, and Website or blog twitter apps. These are just some small examples of what twitter applications are and what they can do.
twitter apps or tools are available to make it easier and faster for us fast-paced people to get our message out there and then move on. The more you can automate your twitter process the more time you will have to spend with your family.
