By giving away the product they lose any money they invested in the product, have to spend distribution money, and finally follow the path down to bankruptcy. Also to comment on your comment about having to pay thousands of people $50, i wasn’t saying they were giving away money, they just don’t get any of the money they would have made.

   iTunes would not make money from the products itself, but rather gain an extra feature which they can add to their checklist when advertising.

   For example:
   iTunes- “And now you can wiki wiki like your favorite dj on iTunes free”
   Mindless consumer – “Cool i think I want an iPod”
   Simple economics.
   With a company this big advertising is more important.

   they don’t advertise, everyone already knows about itunes and its music. i haven’t seen an itunes advertisement in a whole year because they don’t need to advertise to get consumers unless they’re putting out a new ipod.
   Even if they did that people would still be split up into those who buy music and those who download it for free.
   p.s. Your example is retarded, the only reason Itunes is free is because people can buy music from it for apple to make money.

    iTunes is most likely used by iPod owners, my ‘simple economic speech’ is just that ‘simple’. I don’t think I have to explain this anymore but here you go: Extra features>better advertising>more products bought.

    here’s some more information:

    iTunes = Big Company (lots of consumers)
    DJay = Small company (less consumers)

    iTunes would benift from improving the product available to millions more then DJay would selling to thousands.
